She studied theology and apologetics at RZIM’s Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics (OCCA) and at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford. Since then, she has served as an apologist and teacher at Yayasan Pengembangan Apologetika Indonesia (YPAI) and at International English Service (IES) Church in Jakarta.

Jordan Thyer

Jordan Thyer grew up in the Perth hills and spent most of his time outdoors with his brothers and playing sports with mates. Seeing genuine Christian faith displayed in his parents helped Jordan recognise that Christianity was good but the question came later if it was exclusively true. Studying Chemical Engineering at Curtin University further prompted him to consider if Christianity was intellectually credible. The outcome of his subsequent investigation was the discovery that Christianity was not only credible but also gave satisfying answers to the deeper questions of life. Jordan worked as a chemical engineer before moving to the UK to study at the Oxford Centre for Christian Apologetics and upon completion joined the Asian speaking team in 2014, basing himself out of Perth, Australia.

Dan Paterson

Dan Paterson is an RZIM speaker based in Brisbane, Australia. After some family tragedies in his childhood that raised a series of barriers to belief in God, Dan became a Christian at eighteen years of age through an investigation of the New Testament. It was the towering figure of the person of Jesus and His response to suffering which moved him to faith. Having preached all over the world, Dan returned to Brisbane and joined the RZIM speaking team in 2015. He now speaks regularly to audiences on how the Bible connects to life’s biggest questions and on the popular objections to the Christian faith. Dan loves reading, coffee, movies, the outdoors, and (Australian Rules) Football!

Topics

Mirror, Mirror, On The Wall, Who Is The Truest Of Them All?

Is it possible to live a truly authentic life in a world full of hypocrisy? How can we face disappointments in life and still remain true to ourselves? How can we discover our true identity and remain secure in who we are? Jesus claimed to be the way, the truth, and the life. How can we trust His wisdom, guidance, and promises in such an ever-changing world?

Who am I in an Age of Social Media?

This talk considers the fluidity of identity in the postmodern world, age of social media and the pressure it brings, and will contrast with the freedom in identity in Christ.

Is It Worth Believing In Jesus If I’m Already Happy?

“All people seek happiness. This is without exception. Whatever different means they employ, they all tend to this end. The cause of some going to war, and of others avoiding it, is the same desire in both, attended with different views. The will never takes the least step but to this object. This is the motive of every action of every person, even of those who hang themselves.” – Blaise Pascal. We are the most comfortable, entertained, well fed and leisured people ever in world history, and yet we’re not all happy. Join us in considering how God offers something greater than the pursuit of happiness.

Beyond Significance?

Life is often lived with a ‘means to an end’ attitude. Rarely, for example, do people work for work. We work so we can earn money and use what we earn to acquire what we believe will fulfil our needs – means to an end. The question, however, is very simply this: ‘Will what we acquire or accomplish give us what we really seek’? In ‘Beyond Significance’ we will see why humans need to be gripped by a sense of purpose that goes beyond the grave to live well before it.

Why Bother with God if I have Everything

Under the influence of postmodernism and pluralism, the contemporary culture often sees truth as subjective, relative, and oppressive. Accompanied by fast advancement of modern technology, this understanding of truth is leading us to a crisis, including a more than ever confusing and shifting human identity and morality. Opposite to the cultural narrative, the biblical truth is absolute but not abstract, objective but not dehumanising, liberating rather than oppressive. This is because the Christian truth is not just a list of propositions, but first and foremost rooted in a personal God. It is not that we “find” truth, but it is in Jesus that we are found. Knowing Jesus brings stability to our identity in a shifting culture, provides grounds for morality, and brings hope to us in life uncertainties and sufferings.

Exercising Power and Leadership

As a former Public Servant of the Hong Kong Government, Stephen Lam will share about integrating his faith with his work in the government. He will share lessons learnt in his leadership journey and future trends.

Markets, Volatility and Identity

The growing uncertainty of economic and market fluctuations points to the need for a more stable foundation for our personal identity and a deeper sense of meaning-purpose. What can the intrinsic volatility of markets tell us about ourselves?
